Praying for Ukraine
Dear Flock,
No doubt you are watching the gruesome scenes play out in real time on your television sets as the Russian military commits atrocity after atrocity against the Ukrainian people. We know that you are praying, as we are, for justice and the protection and upbuilding of Christ’s church in the midst of this fiery trial.
Will you set aside the following Sunday evenings, March 6th, 13th, and 20th from 6:00-7:00 pm and join us in our sanctuary for prayer meetings devoted to Ukraine and the surrounding region?
March 20th: We will talk about the broader historical context surrounding the present conflict and some of the worldwide implications of this unrest. March 13th: We will hear from Tatyana Giunta who herself fled from Ukraine with her family in her childhood. She will talk to us about her family’s experience, relatives who are still in Ukraine, and give us a personal account for how we can pray.
March 20th: We will have members of our military from within our congregation share with us their reflections on the unfolding conflict in Ukraine and war, generally speaking.
You may want to look at this essay written by John Murray, founding Systematic Theology professor at Westminster Seminary; he gives a profound assessment of World War II and the need for Christian justice against Nazi Germany. Many of his principles apply to the need for Christian justice against the evils being committed by present-day Russia.
These evenings will be streamed via Facebook Live.
